A study by The University of Arizona in 2007 conducted by professor Charles Gerba an expert in soil, water and environmental science, showed that the average work desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat and 100 times more bacteria than a kitchen table.
The study was tested in more than 100 offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oregon and Washington D.C.
Findings from the study showed that women had three to four times the amount of bacteria on their phones, computers, keyboards and drawers than men do. One of the reasons for this is that women’s cosmetics and hand lotions are prime carriers of bacteria and this is where they are more likely to multiply.
Food was also more likely to be found stored in the women’s office drawers in the form of snacks, which caused crumbs another source from which bacteria can multiply.Men were not completely clear of blame either, as it was found that wallets were another prime source of bacteria.
